Yale New Haven Health System named a 2016 “Most Wired” winner

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS)  has been selected as one of the most wired  in the nation by Hospitals and Health Networks, a trade magazine published by the American Hospital Association. This recognition is based on technology advancements made by organizations to enhance patient safety, clinical quality and customer service in healthcare centers.

The nation’s Most Wired have demonstrated better outcomes in four key areas:

  • Infrastructure, such as regular risk analysis and wireless EHR accessibility
  • Business and administrative management, such as enterprise decision support and analytics ;
  • Clinical quality and safety, such as electronic medication reconciliation; and
  • Clinical integration, such as physician office e-prescribing and connectivity and a patient portal.

“Remaining a leader in enhancing the patient experience while providing safe, high quality and innovative care through technology is something that we take a lot of pride in,” said Lisa Stump, chief information officer, Yale New Haven Health System. “The power of technology and information to bring value to our patients in the form of enhanced health is an invaluable investment for our patients and their families.”

 Some recent technology-related improvements at YNHHS include:

  • Growing use of remote monitoring for disease and case management such as Tele-ICU, Telestroke, Telepsychiatry and Telepharmacy programs bring experts to the point of care to best serve our patients.
  • New communication mediums such as social media, bedside tablets and our patient portal app which have enhanced patient engagement and experience.
  • Enhanced access to real-time clinical information and decision support tools which have reduced errors and eliminated duplication.
  • Use of enhanced detection systems and secure mobile communication platforms to enhance already in-place security systems designed to keep patient information private and confidential.

Hospitals and Health Networks polls the nation’s hospitals on the use of information technology. This year's list was compiled through a survey conducted in partnership between H&HN and the American Hospital Association (AHA). The survey evaluated hospitals based on how they use health IT in four areas:

In all, 680 participants completed the survey, representing more than 2,100 hospitals—roughly 34 percent of hospitals in the United States.

In the end, 364 hospitals and health systems made the "Most Wired" List.
