Community outreach has been very active at Northeast Medical Group throughout the second quarter of FY2024. From an event designed to promote heart health, breast cancer prevention and more, to a monthly meal service that supports families of sick children, the spirit of giving back to the community was in abundance.

On Feb. 25, NEMG and Bridgeport Hospital staff participated in Bridgeport's Blessed Sacrament Church Health Fair. Volunteers spoke about heart health, breast cancer and injury prevention, and the REACH outpatient mental health program. The free event drew approximately 100 people and attracted families and children. “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Northeast Medical Group and Bridgeport Hospital team for their participation, energy and enthusiasm, in making the health fair a success and providing invaluable health and wellness information,” said Karen Soares, coordinator of the Blessed Sacrament Health Fair.

The Northeast Medical Group Community Outreach Committee (COC) hosted their monthly volunteer meal program at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Valhalla, NY, this past Feb. 28. The program provides a much-needed service to families who are supporting their sick children and don’t often have the time, financial means or energy to prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal. Volunteers prepared chicken cutlets, roasted potatoes, green salad, roasted vegetables and cookies for dessert. “We are currently in our fourth year of dinner meal preparation for the Ronald McDonald House in Valhalla, NY,” said Jessica Morandi, manager, practice operations. “Clinicians, team members and their families have all taken part in preparing dinner services and find it to be an extremely rewarding experience.”

YNHHS is holding its fourth online #GiveHealthy food drive March 1 - 31 to coincide with National Nutrition Month. Employees and medical staff are invited to visit https://ynhhs.org/givehealthy and support one or more hunger-relief organizations in the communities YNHHS serves. The health system’s first three drives resulted in over 50,360 pounds of food being donated to local hunger-relief organizations. Because the food donated through YNHHS’ #GiveHealthy drive will ship from suppliers directly to hunger-relief organizations, you will be able to purchase healthy food items, including fresh produce, to improve the health of our communities. #GiveHealthy provides an online platform for hunger-relief organizations to set up “registries” listing items they need. Visit the website and choose the items you wish to purchase for a particular organization. For more information, contact Augusta Mueller, [email protected] or 203-688-3862.

The Community Outreach Committee (COC) is instrumental in carrying out NEMG’s mission to help the communities we serve. For information or to join, contact Robert Mitchell, 203-384-5109. Watch for more information on committee initiatives.
