Throughout March, Northeast Medical Group honored social workers for their essential contributions to the health system.
Social workers deal with a wide variety of issues, including abuse and neglect, assault, trauma, self-harm, suicidality, legal, environmental and family issues. Their compassion and dedication help patients heal physically and emotionally. Working with other treatment providers such as physicians, APRNs and APCs, they strive to deliver the highest-quality patient-centered care possible.
The theme for National Social Work Month 2019 was “ELEVATE Social Work.” Integrated Behavioral Health Specialist Annette M. Bailey, LCSW, PhD, said “For me, being a social worker is my vocation and not a choice. I chose to work at Northeast Medical Group because its organizational values align with mine. Social workers touch the lives of millions of people each day, helping them overcome life’s hurdles so they can live to their full potential. We are trained to examine and address life’s problems in a holistic way. Our goals are to elevate and empower people, promote capacity-building, teach how to cope with personal roadblocks and support access to the resources people need to succeed.”
According to the National Association of Social Workers “Every day, the nation’s 680,000 social workers act as advocates, champions and leaders who make our society a better place to live.”
