Catherine Staffieri, RD
On June 6, Catherine Staffieri, RD, presented “Picky Eater and the Balanced Plate” to an audience of six adults, three children and former pediatrician, Mary Versfelt, MD. Introduced by Amy Cram, MD, the lecture was offered by Northeast Medical Group Pediatrics – Rye Brook to existing patients and those interested in learning more about the practice.
Staffieri’s discussion for parents and their children provided a general overview on healthy eating, the importance of having a well-balanced plate and awareness of marketing techniques employed to make people think they are choosing a healthy option. She offered nutrition resources and tips to incentivize children to make healthier selections.
“It was a very open-ended forum,” said Cindy Fraser, practice supervisor. “She offered a lot of flexible options and suggestions for parents to remediate eating concerns with their children. It was clear that the aim was to ensure children’s health took priority over how much/what is being consumed.”
“The setting was very relaxed,” said Jessica Fama, practice operations manager. “Parents and their kids were engaged and asking excellent questions, and the speaker made the discussion interactive.
