Yale New Haven Health has been ranked #8 in the nation in the 2020 DiversityInc Top Hospitals & Health Systems list. The award, announced in May of this year, recognizes YNHHS’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through its work and accomplishments across all levels of the organization, including in the areas of hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, people who are LGBT and veterans.
“Yale New Haven Health has fully embraced not just the concept of diversity and inclusion but what it takes to make it part of the fabric of our organization. ” said Marna P. Borgstrom, CEO, Yale New Haven Health and Yale New Haven Hospital. “We designed a strategic approach that includes all aspects of our operations and fosters an environment of inclusion and respect. We believe this enriches both the patient and the employee experience, contributes to the quality of care we provide and supports the communities we serve.”
YNHHS continues to develop the diversity profile. YNHHS concluded 2019 as an organization comprised of 78 percent women and 36 percent people of color. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion has led the standardization and implementation of the system-wide diversity and inclusion strategy and partnered with delivery networks in the creation of six Diversity Councils. YNHHS also developed content and course material to support the education and awareness with ten D&I classes for staff and launched the “Let’s Talk” signature platform to foster the efforts of inclusion by establishing a culture that values diversity.
