October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there was no shortage of support across Northeast Medical Group. From “Dress in Pink" days to a Halloween-themed tribute and pumpkin-decorating contest, pink was in abundance.
Staff from Northeast Medical Group Pediatrics – Hamden held a special “Dress in Pink” day to show their support for breast cancer awareness. Additionally, delicious, pink-colored treats, including cookies, donuts, Pop-Tarts® and pink lemonade, were shared and enjoyed among staff.
In the spirit of Halloween, staff members from Northeast Medical Group Internal Medicine - Cheshire dressed in their best “Grease”-inspired apparel as a tribute to late actress and singer Olivia Newton-John, who lost her 30-year battle with breast cancer this past August.
On Oct. 26, several practices system-wide held pumpkin-decorating contests. Sabrina Fonteyn, preventive health coordinator, organized the competition and a panel of judges voted for their favorites, with top honors going to Northeast Medical Group Internal Medicine – Orange. The competition earned several compliments and was regarded as a wonderful team-building experience.
“Whether you are a cancer survivor yourself, or you know and love someone who has experienced a breast cancer diagnosis, breast cancer affects so many of us,” said Fonteyn. “In fact, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Therefore, the best way to raise awareness is through education on symptoms and treatment. We hope that greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection.”
