On June 7, 2021, Community Outreach Committee (COC) members Kimberley Abell, clinical practice optimization specialist; Rachel Branch, MA; Tracy Cottrell, administrative associate; Maureen Leach, NP; and Sonia Stavens, RN, delivered “Cheer” gardens – a variety of herbs and flowering and vegetable - to NEMG practices throughout the New London and Westerly region. “The Cheer gardens were sent to show our appreciation for all of the staff and their great work serving our patients,” said Abell.
A large portion of the plants were grown by Maureen Leach, NP, from NEMG Physiatry - New London. Additionally, supplies, including containers, soil and low-light plants were generously donated by Lowe’s in Waterford. Staff members were very surprised and grateful to receive the beautiful arrangements. Some offices opted to divide the garden up; others nominated a caregiver to take it home with the promise to bring back the vegetables it produces for the office to share. Other practices elected to keep the plants in the office to spread cheer throughout the day.
“I think it was amazing to see the happiness and joy brought to the offices, especially with everything we have been through this past year,” said Branch. “The staff in every office I delivered to were just so happy and thankful to be remembered.”
