In an effort started nearly three years ago, Community Outreach Committee members from the New London region have continued to provide a monthly dinner service to residents of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. Traditionally, each month, a different NEMG office volunteers to prepare a warm meal, which typically includes pasta, salad, bread, and dessert, to approximately 25-30 residents at the center. The last dinner service was held on April 23 and consisted of ziti, salad, bread, a variety of desserts and drinks.
The center is a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut. It collaborates with dozens of public and private programs and agencies to address the underlying causes of homelessness for each person and help them find permanent housing as quickly as possible.
“These dinners are a great way for us to give back to the local community,” said Tracy Cottrell, administrative associate. “The residents are always very appreciative to have a warm meal and we enjoy helping them.”
