President's message

Dear Colleagues:

I hope you are all doing well and took some time to enjoy the summer safely.

We are now two and a half years into the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am continuously impressed by both the perseverance and dedication to great care provided by our clinicians and staff. We have tirelessly taken care of our patients and their families, often with the recognition of increased risk to ourselves. As we start to see a light at the end of the tunnel, we continue to carry on the business of health care throughout each wave. We have kept people safe and we have endured. Thank you all!

On Aug. 3, 2022, we celebrated the opening of YNHHS’ newest site – the Westport Digestive Health Center. Attendees’ spirits were high and the weather was perfect for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The facility brings together experts from Yale Medicine in colorectal, bariatric, hernia and minimally invasive surgery with a highly skilled and experienced team of NEMG gastroenterologists to better coordinate our patients’ care and provide added convenience. For more information about the ribbon-cutting event, please refer to the article in this newsletter.

The month of August also marked an expansion of NEMG’s partnership with the University of New Haven, and the beginning of a new partnership with Sacred Heart University, to provide student health care services. This expansion gives students greater access to care, including treatment of acute illnesses or injuries. All students will have access to MyChart, as well. This work is a great accomplishment for NEMG and I am very proud of all of those who worked hard to create it. To learn more, read the recent press releases:

On Sept. 25, 2022, NEMG took on all inpatient anesthesia services at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital and Pequot Health. At the same time, community-based Shoreline Interventional Pain Center transitioned their patients’ care to NEMG. Be on the lookout for more information about these announcements in future newsletters.

Your physical and emotional well-being are top priority. I encourage all of you to take part in our voluntary, confidential well-being check-ins available to all clinicians and staff. If interested, schedule an appointment on the intranet.

We are all in this together. To help navigate this challenging time, I urge you to take advantage of the following resources:

The Employee and Family Resources program offers confidential counseling. For information visit www.achievesolutions.net/ynhhs

NEMG was recently recognized by United Healthcare (UHC) as one of the top 15 medical groups, out of 1000 groups across the country, for patients getting access to care. More than 1000 medical groups had patient surveys sent to UHC Medicare Advantage patients who had recently been seen for a primary care visit. In this patient satisfaction survey, NEMG scored 96 percent for patient satisfaction pertaining to getting access to care. Job well done!

I wish you all a safe and happy fall.

My gratitude to you all for your diligent work and dedication to excellence in patient care. I am proud to work with such an outstanding team.

Sincerely,
