On April 25 and 27, the Eastern Region NEMG Mod Squad Team, led by Brian Williams, MD, kicked off a revamped version of the Mod Squad On-Demand at NEMG Family and Internal Medicine – Westerly. Pre-visit comfort scale ratings, scheduled half-hour 1:1 personalization sessions and targeted workflow reviews were incorporated as part of the revamp. Both the operations manager and supervisor were heavily involved in the planning stage to guide the targeted workflows.
Day one kicked-off with a PowerPoint presentation for all staff and clinicians in the Nardone Conference Room at Westerly Hospital. Follow-up meetings are held at both three-week and six-week intervals to track specific workflow progress. Improvement data is being monitored, based on pre- and post visit comfort scales, in addition to both metric data and clinician signal reports. Early data has already shown significant improvement in workflow metrics such as advanced care planning and annual wellness exam scheduling. Staff and clinicians alike sent emails to the Mod Squad team following the visit, expressing their appreciation for the increase in knowledge of Epic workflows and efficiency after the 1:1 personalization sessions.
Operations Manager Emily Dudley and Practice Supervisor Amanda Spencer, along with numerous staff, expressed their gratitude. “The Mod Squad engagement was such a positive experience for our Westerly primary care office,” said Dudley. “The knowledge and experience that the Mod Squad team brought allowed us to identify areas of opportunity to increase efficiency and create a better team environment for the entire office. I highly recommend accessing this resource and have already requested additional engagements for other departments.”
Visiting team members included content experts Dr. Williams; Liz Dubois, MA II; Kim Abell, clinical optimization specialist; Kalyani Srimatkandada, practice optimization specialist; and Teresa Kelly, practice optimization specialist from the NEMG Practice Optimization Team.
