On Sunday, June 27, 2021, staff from Northeast Medical Group Family Medicine and Internal Medicine - New London participated in the 14th Annual Walk to End Homelessness – a 1.6 mile trek to raise awareness of and funds for the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. The Center is a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut.
“For years, the Center has held this walk rain or shine, knowing that people are homeless in all kinds of weather, and we walk in solidarity with them no matter what,” said Minister Mary Rose, MA, leader of “Team Northeast Medical Group.” This year’s event looped around the city of New London, beginning and concluding at Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument – the centerpiece of downtown’s Parade Plaza.
In addition to Minister Mary Rose, “Team Northeast Medical Group” included Angel Cirilo, MD; Anthony Carter, MD, medical director, New London region; Debra Carter, his wife; and Chanel Johnson, his daughter. NEMG clinicians and staff unable to join the walk made donations that were greatly appreciated.
“The Walk is a great event which highlights the NEMG New London Region Community Outreach Committee’s (COC) dedication to those in need of assistance,” said Kim Abell, clinical optimization specialist, NEMG. “In addition to the monthly meal services we provide, the Walk expands our ability to contribute to the patrons of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. Special thanks to Minister Mary Rose for making this year’s event such a success.”
