Overview

One of the most important parts of the human body is the endocrine system, which consists of numerous glands, including the thyroid, pancreas, pituitary, adrenals, ovaries and testes. Glands produce and secrete (release) hormones, among them estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, insulin and growth hormone. Each hormone is necessary for a particular function, such as your metabolism, growth, development, reproduction, sleep, mood … and the list goes on.

When any one of your glands isn’t working properly — either secreting too little or too much hormone — your body suffers. Endocrine dysfunction can contribute to a wide range of conditions affecting virtually every organ system of the body. Possible illnesses include thyroid disease, diabetes, metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, menopause and cancers of the endocrine glands.

Our Approach to Endocrinology Care

Northeast Medical Group endocrinologists are specially trained physicians who can diagnose and treat conditions affecting not only your endocrine system but also other parts of the body beyond the glands. Our board-certified endocrinologists have years of education and experience in using state-of-the-art technology and testing procedures to identify the cause of a problem and then to determine the best course of action.

The overall goal of treatment, in both adult and pediatric patients, is to restore the normal balance of hormone activity. Your endocrinologist is also concerned with preventive care and avoiding any reoccurrence of your illness. He or she will follow up after treatment to ensure your renewed health and, if necessary, prescribe medications to help manage long-term conditions.

Many Northeast Medical Group endocrinologists participate in groundbreaking research and scientific activities designed to find new ways to better treat hormonal imbalances, including the development of new drugs and therapies. The endocrine system is essential to your physical and mental well-being, so keeping it fine-tuned is important in maintaining your overall health.
